Litigation Counsel
Principal Responsibilities
Lawyer sought to litigate on behalf of victims of predatory and unfair mortgage lending and other abusive financial products in order to advance the Center’s mission of promoting responsible lending. Examples of CRL’s cases and other court filings can be found at http://www.responsiblelending.org/policy/courts/.
Responsibilities will include:
- devising innovative strategies for litigating predatory lending and fair lending cases
- conducting legal research
- conducting discovery
- drafting pleadings and briefs
- developing cases.
The attorney will also provide litigation support to other organizations and attorneys, including grantees of the Institute for Foreclosure Legal Assistance (http://www.foreclosurelegalassistance.org/) a project recently launched by CRL.
Some travel is required.
Desired Qualifications
- 3 + years as an attorney
- Excellent demonstrated writing, research and analytical skills required
- Experience developing and litigating cases
- Experience in civil rights, predatory lending, or consumer law preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to public interest law
- Ability to work well as part of a team and with a diverse group of people
- Self-starter, able to initiate and juggle multiple projects and work independently
